A farm above Sarnthein

The tower came first. It dates from the 13th century, and the Stauder family lived in it for a long time. The Stofnerhof grew up around it, and around it the work goes on to this day.

Above the whole village

The Stofnerhof sits a little above Sarnthein, the main village of the Sarntal valley, at 960 metres. Meadows all around, the forest above, the village below. From the apartments the view stretches over Sarnthein and down the valley.

The hiking trails start right at the farm. Bolzano is easy to reach, and if you arrive by train we pick you up at Bolzano station.

What needs doing here every day

The work goes on even when guests are here. Anyone who likes can join in, children just as much as adults.

  1. In the morning

You collect your breakfast eggs yourself, straight from the hens.

  2. In the cowshed

Feeding and milking the cows, brushing the horses. Everyone can join in, even if you have never seen a cow up close.

  3. In summer

Haymaking in the meadow. If you can hold a rake, you are welcome to help.

Johann Stauder dry-salts it, smokes it gently and lets it mature for at least six to eight months. Guests taste it on the farm or take it home with them.

Living in the tower

Today the tower holds the Turmgemach, the apartment for two. It has a kitchen-living room, a bedroom, a bathroom with bathtub and shower, and a large terrace.
